Event Information
STEM Extreme partnered up with Oxford Preparatory Academy-South Orange County to host STEM Extreme day on March 21st 2021 from 5-7 P.M. and STEAM night on April 18th 2021 from 4-6 P.M.
Oxford Preparatory Academy is a local charter school that “strives to create a center for higher learning where students from transitional kindergarten to eighth grade are prepared to pursue high level academic studies, as well as gain skills to be successful in the diverse, global community.”
On both STEM Extreme Day and STEAM Night, STEM Extreme hosted four different STEM events for the students:
Google Cardboard VR Activity
Students in 3rd grade participate in a Google Cardboard VR Activity where they experienced virtual reality for the first time playing the battleship game we created.
Obstacle Course Competition
Students in grades 4-6 participated in an obstacle course competition. They programmed micro:bit powered robot cars to go through our obstacle course the fastest. They learned the basics of programming and had a blast competing with each other!
LED Circuits
Students in grades 5-6 learned the fundamentals of circuits and their importance in our everyday lives. They learned how to create various simple LED circuits designs on breadboards.
Python
Students in grades 7-8 learned the fundamentals of programming in python. They learned about input, output, data types, variables, conditionals, and functions. Students with no programming experience were able to create their very own quiz game by the end of the event!
