With the recent release of the Model Y in March, Tesla’s stock has been booming. The company seems to be doing better than ever with a market cap of $466 billion. Elon Musk has stated many times that he wanted to create a car the people loved as people talk about things they love. He has clearly accomplished this because the company spends no money on advertising yet everybody knows about Tesla. Tesla’s game plan from the beginning was unique and successful. They would first get people interested in electric cars with a high performance sports car, create a slightly more affordable and higher production luxury sedan and SUV, and create an affordable and high production sedan and SUV. First, they came out with the Tesla roadster in 2009, an electric sports car, to show the world what electric cars were capable of in terms of performance. The Tesla roadster was built using a Lotus Elise chassis and the company nearly went bankrupt during the 2008 recession. Few roadsters were built as a car with a 3.7 second 0-60 mph time was not cheap in 2009. (Just above $110,000.) However, the goal of the Tesla roadster was not to sell as many as possible but to get people interested in electric cars and to see what they were capable of. In 2012, the Tesla Model S, a luxury family sedan, was released. The car was priced at about $75,000, and while certainly not very affordable, was a practical car that wealthy consumers could purchase. The Model S was made on a much larger scale than the roadster and many more were sold. Then, in 2015, Tesla came out with the Model X, a luxury SUV. In 2018, Tesla advanced to the final step in their plan: releasing an affordable electric car without compromising too much. The Model 3 was priced at $36,000 and was a much more affordable option for consumers. The Model 3 soon became the best selling electric car on the market. Tesla released the Model Y earlier this year, completing their “SEXY” lineup. (S3XY.)
